Tour de Forth - Classic route and profile

The route is 109km (68 miles) with 1041m (3,412ft) of climbing, starting and finishing at RBS Gogarburn. The route is open road and we have tried to stay on the back roads and minimise the number of traffic lights  but  please be aware of traffic and crossings and take care. Please note that if you took part before, we are no longer starting at Ingliston showground and have a new route.

We have two water/feed stations at Ineos HQ in Grangemouth after 66km (41 miles) and after the Park Bistro at the canal after 82km (51 miles). Please note that we will be using the pedestrian walkway to cross the bridge and staying on the pavement to the skin flats.

All participants need to obey the Highway Code and abide by the Road Traffic Act. Helmets are mandatory for the sportive and take spare inners, water, some snacks, some money for emergencies and don't forget a bit of sun protection.

Similar to last year we will have a staged start so please estimate your expected time so we can create the groups, don't worry we will not be rigid and help you cycle with your friends. We do need to set a time limit to let the volunteers go home. You must leave the water/feed station by 1pm, be at Linlithgow canal by 230pm and back at Gogaburn by 4pm so we can pack up and go home!

We leave RBS Gogarburn via the East exit onto Gogar Station Road, and then Gogarbank Road to Ratho then onwards to Newbridge. We turn left onto the A89 and then taking care to turn right at the filter onto the B800 to Kirkliston. After Kirkliston we head for South Queensferry via Dalmeny, turning right onto Station Road crossing under the Forth bridge to head along the coast to Hopetoun, we turn before the entrance to the House and then head for the Forth bridge via the A904. On the Fife side, we hug the coast for as long as we can through Rosyth, then Limekilns and Charlestown with 2 short stints on the busy A985 before cutting back to the river and Crombie Point. Then taking care of the dogwalkers we cycle along the front to Torryburn, Culross and onto Kincardine Bridge, staying on the footpath and pavement after the bridge towards the feed station.

After the bridge we cross the Skinflats that will take us to Grangemouth and the feedstation on Inchyra Road, then onto the back roads and head up into the hilly part of West Lothian. Take care crossing the busy A706 and then admire the view while you get your breath back at West Lothian Golf Club before heading down towards the A904, we head for the Park bistro and then Linlithgow crossing the canal and up your last long hill. After that it is downhill most of the way to Niddry, Newbridge, Ratho and Gogarburn.

There will be marshalls at all the busy junctions and right turns, but please take care on the busy roads.
